Hebbal has long been North Bangalore's busiest junction, and it is now the focus of more new infrastructure than almost any other part of the city. Upcoming infrastructure projects in Hebbal include the airport metro, a planned three-line interchange, new flyover loops, a short underground bypass, and a much larger tunnel road towards Silk Board. Some are already open, others are years away, and a few remain uncertain. Below, we set out each project, its latest status as of September 2026, and what it could mean for residents in Hebbal and Kempapura, including homes at Misty Waters.

Upcoming Infrastructure Projects in Hebbal at a Glance

The Airport Metro

The Blue Line's Phase 2B is the most significant project for daily life. It runs from KR Puram along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) through Nagawara, Veerannapalya, and Kempapura to Hebbal, then north to Kempegowda International Airport. For Misty Waters, Kempapura station is about 1 km away and Veerannapalya about 2.3 km. No part of Phase 2B had opened as of September 2026. Our Kempapura metro station guide tracks the dates.

The Hebbal Metro Interchange

Hebbala station is planned as the Hebbal metro interchange, where three lines meet. The Blue Line will connect it to the airport and the ORR office belt. Meanwhile, the approved Orange Line will run from Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase, giving west and south Bangalore a direct link. A proposed Red Line, Hebbal to Sarjapura, would add a north–south route through the city centre; the state approved its detailed project report in December 2024, a revised report followed in February 2026, and Union approval is awaited.

Once complete, the interchange would make Hebbal one of the best-connected transit points in the city.

Flyover Loops and Junction Fixes

Two new loops at the Hebbal flyover have already opened. A 750-metre loop opened in August 2025 to help traffic from Nagawara enter the city, and a second loop, trialled from 20 December 2025 and inaugurated in early January 2026, improved city entry from Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Sahakar Nagar. Early reports suggested the second loop cut congestion by nearly 25%.

Further fixes are planned. A short, six-lane underground bypass will link Mekhri Circle and the airport road, with an exit near Hebbal Lake on Ballari Road and an entry near Esteem Mall; land acquisition has begun, and the road will use the cut-and-cover method. The state also approved a Rs 2,215 crore tunnel and road corridor for the Hebbal–Mekhri Circle stretch in December 2025.

The Hebbal Tunnel Road Project

The larger Hebbal tunnel road project would run about 16.7 km underground from the Esteem Mall junction at Hebbal to Central Silk Board, built on a build–own–operate–transfer model and tolled for four-wheelers. Administrative approval came from the state, and in 2026 the Adani Group emerged as the lowest bidder at about Rs 22,267 crore, above earlier estimates. As of May 2026, the final cabinet decision was pending.

The project has supporters and critics. Supporters point to faster north–south trips; urban experts have urged more investment in metro and suburban rail instead. If it goes ahead, construction near the Hebbal entry could bring several years of disruption before any benefit.

Construction Disruption: What to Expect

New infrastructure brings a construction phase first. Metro work along the ORR can narrow lanes near station sites, and finishing work at stations will continue until opening. The underground bypass near the flyover, built by cut-and-cover, will need surface diversions near Ballari Road and Esteem Mall while it is dug and roofed over. If the long tunnel road goes ahead, its Hebbal entry near Esteem Mall would add another work zone. Residents of Kempapura are somewhat shielded, since the estate sits east of the flyover and set back from the ORR, but trips through the junction may take longer during peak construction periods.

What It Means for Residents and Buyers

For residents of Kempapura, the metro matters most. A station about 1 km away, with an interchange at Hebbal, would give reliable travel to the airport, the eastern ORR, and eventually the city centre. The flyover loops already help trips into the city. Road tunnels could ease the Hebbal–Mekhri stretch but may bring construction traffic first.

For buyers, infrastructure usually supports long-term demand, but timelines slip. We suggest buying a home that works today and treating new projects as upside. The Peripheral Ring Road is another project to watch; see our look at how it could affect North Bangalore. Full distances from Misty Waters are on the location page.
