Few projects will change daily life in North Bangalore as much as the airport metro. For residents around the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Kempapura metro station opening date is the key question, because the station sits about 1 km from homes such as Misty Waters and a short walk from much of Kempapura. As of September 2026, no part of Blue Line Phase 2B has opened to passengers. Below, we explain where the line runs, the latest targets, which stations serve North Bangalore, and what realistic expectations look like for commuters and home buyers.

What Is the Blue Line?

The Blue Line is Namma Metro's airport corridor. Phase 2A runs along the ORR from Central Silk Board to KR Puram with 13 stations, and Phase 2B carries the line north from KR Puram through Hebbal to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) with 17 stations. Together they form a line of about 30 stations linking the city's two biggest office belts with the airport.

Phase 2B is the section that matters most for Hebbal. After KR Puram, it runs west along the ORR through Kasturi Nagar, Horamavu, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout, Nagawara, Veerannapalya, and Kempapura, then turns north at Hebbal and follows the airport road.

Blue Line Metro Hebbal Kempapura: Where the Stations Sit

On the Blue Line metro Hebbal Kempapura stretch, three stations sit close together:

Kempapura station forms part of Reach 2B Package 1, the KR Puram–Kempapura section, for which Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) won the civil contract in 2021. Hebbala station is planned as a major interchange, with the approved Orange Line (Kempapura–JP Nagar 4th Phase) and the proposed Red Line (Hebbal–Sarjapura) set to meet the Blue Line there.

Kempapura Metro Station Opening Date: The Latest Targets

Timelines have moved more than once, so it helps to separate the two parts of Phase 2B. The Hebbal–airport section is targeted for September 2027. Meanwhile, the connecting KR Puram–Hebbal stretch, which includes Nagawara, Veerannapalya, and Kempapura, has been slower, and in August 2026 the full corridor's completion was pushed from December 2027 to March 2028.

Station-level pages have at times listed earlier dates, including December 2026 for Kempapura and Veerannapalya. Those now look optimistic. For planning purposes, we suggest treating 2027–28 as the realistic window and March 2028 as the current official target for the full corridor.

Airport Metro Stations North Bangalore Residents Will Use

Beyond Hebbal, the airport metro stations North Bangalore residents will use run along the airport road: Kodigehalli, Jakkur Cross, Yelahanka, Bagalur Cross, Bettahalasur, Doddajala, Airport City, and KIAL Terminals. Doddajala will also host the Blue Line's depot. Station pages list Yelahanka, Doddajala, and KIAL Terminals around mid-2027, in line with the Hebbal–airport target.

Once the full line opens, a resident at Kempapura could ride north to the airport without touching the Hebbal flyover, or south-east along the ORR towards KR Puram and the Silk Board office belt.

What It Means for Daily Commutes

Today, most trips from Kempapura rely on the ORR and the Hebbal flyover, and peak-hour traffic can double drive times. A station about 1 km away changes that equation. Commuters heading to the airport, to KR Puram, or towards the Silk Board end of the ORR gain a predictable rail option, and families gain a way to reach the airport without depending on cabs during peak hours.

Manyata Embassy Business Park sits about 2.5 km from Misty Waters, so many residents will keep driving or walking to work. The metro's bigger effect may be on trips further afield.

How to Track Progress

Three signals give a clearer picture than headline dates. First, watch for track-laying and station finishing work at Kempapura and Veerannapalya, which usually follows the viaduct by several months. Second, look for trial runs on the Hebbal–airport section, the first part due to open. Third, note the safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, which must clear any section before passengers board. Announcements from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on these milestones are the most reliable guide to a real opening date.

What It Means for Property

Metro access tends to support both rents and resale values in pockets closest to new stations, although the effect usually builds as opening approaches rather than all at once. Our analysis of how metro access affects Hebbal prices looks at this in detail, and our overview of upcoming infrastructure projects in Hebbal covers the road projects running alongside. Buyers should still weigh the delay risk: a home bought today should make sense even if the station opens later than planned. See the location page for full distances from the estate.
